Tricks to get health insurance with ease

Recent financial situation is not stable in the US as many people suffered a job loss and wage cut after the recent economic depression. Remember that health problems can occur suddenly leading to huge hospital expenses. In such situation, your health insurance can help you manage your situation despite your financial crisis. If you don’t have a health insurance then your considerable amount of savings will be drained. Are thinking that you can’t afford health insurance at this moment? But a little research can help you find coverage that will be suitable in accordance with your budget.

  1. Make sure you sign on with the health insurance that has been provided by your employer. This is considered to be the cheapest option that you can avail. If you are self employed then look for insurance company that offers maximum benefit on low premium.
  2. Try to look for information regarding coverage under COBRA (Consolidated Omnibus Reconciliation Act of 1985) if you are not working with the employer. You can prolong your coverage beyond 18 months but your employer will not pay the premium in future.
  3. Look for a health insurance broker and try to draw a comparative analysis between plans and costs that suit you best. You can take guidance from the National Association of Health Underwriters as it can help you find a local health insurance company.
  4. Remember that the biggest advantage of buying a fee-for-service plan is that you have your individual control over which doctor you will consult. But the premium on these types of insurance is high therefore you might have to spend extra if the doctor’s consultation fee is high.
  5. Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs) and Point-of-service (POS) network both are similar to each other. The only difference is that the   primary care physician decides which specialists you can consult. But you can consult a physician outside the POS network but the fee might be more than the customary charges and involves more paper works.
